My name is Kristen and I am a registered social worker with both a Bachelor’s and a Master’s degree in social work from Memorial University. I am currently working toward a PhD in social work and in addition to working with Power Counselling, I also teach at Memorial. I have been practicing social work for nearly 15 years and am eternally grateful for the work I am able to do, and the relationships I have been able to form with the folks I work alongside.

I have worked in diverse practice areas which have provided me with the knowledge, skills and compassion needed to create meaningful, therapeutic relationships with people. I believe in the value of showing up as my genuine self in sessions with you. My approach is client-centered; I bring a variety of tools to the table, and I believe that you do as well, and our work together will be collaborative and goal driven.

My approach is truly eclectic in that I believe there is no such thing as one-size-fits all in a therapeutic relationship. I am trained in many theoretical approaches including CBT, DBT, Solution Focused, Narrative Therapy, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, Motivational Interviewing, Brief Interventions and The Gottman Method for working with couples. I believe that each person must be considered in context and that sometimes there are systemic and environmental factors to consider. I believe each person is doing the best they can in any given moment.

I have experience working with people who have mental health issues and mental illnesses including depression, anxiety, personality disorders and suicidal ideation, as well as people experiencing relationship difficulties, environmental stress, work stress, grief and loss, addiction concerns, issues related to parenting, difficult transitions, and those wishing to improve their overall wellbeing. I work with youth, adults and couples, and have a special interest in working with members of the 2SLGBTQIA+ community and their families. If you’re interested in working together, you can book through our website, or you can reach out to me directly via email at Kristen@powercounselling.net.
